Anonymous asked: ok look, I like captain america, I think remember is doing a fine job and Mindbuble seems fun. But I just have to say this. No real organization would ever name a ship The Gungnir. Look at the way we name aircraft carries. the class name is Nimitz and the last dozen have been named after presidents. before then they had names like Valley Forge. Its way over the top. We would never name a ship the spear of Odin. I mean really

brevoortformspring:

We’ve seen in the past that Helicarriers tend to be named out of mythology and literature—the Helicarrier Iliad is the main one at the moment, and we’ve seen the Odyssey as well. Given that, I don’t think a warship named Gungnir is all that far-fetched. Especially when you consider that SHIELD is an international organization, so it’s not going to likely name it’s craft after the military heroes or history of any one particular nation.

Didn’t know that SHIELD had a helicarrier named Gungnir (after Odin’s spear), nowadays…

The fun part: Back in the old Iron Man: Hypervelocity miniseries I did with artist Brian Denham, we showed SHIELD fielding Stark-designed experimental missiles also named Gungnir! So, in theory, the big Gungnir could fire a whole lotta little Gungnirs at suprahuman targets! Wheeee!
